Suggested viewing and why watch this Documentary?

Whether you are considering sending a loved one or coming yourself, we strongly suggest you watch this documentary about Hope showing the reality of undergoing Rehab treatment.  We feel the film shows the reality of what you can expect which is usually much more than people realize. Hope over delivers and under charges compared to other Rehabs in Thailand.

Who made this documentary film?

Bangkok Pat (Patrick McKay Youtuber) initially made the film for his channel about Addiction services in Thailand however we all participated in one way or another. That is everyone who wanted to, understandably some clients choose not to however most wanted to contribute. So staff, interns and clients have all helped provide insight into what goes on at Hope. Pat is best known as an urban explorer who documents his adventures in popular YouTube videos. His Thai/English background allows him unique insights into the attractions, culture, and history of Bangkok and beyond.

Why was it made? The aims and goal of the film.

The aim of this film quickly went from a short information film into an epic documentary about how rehab treatment works, particularly Hope Rehab in Thailand, which is special place as Rehabs go. The film is an honest depiction of Rehab life, not glamourizing or minimizing the powerful experiences our clients have. Substance abuse can so easily transform the expat dream into a nightmare. In this documentary, Bangkok Pat also investigates the rising demand for places like Hope Rehab Thailand which is attracting people from around the globe in search of recovery.

Where was the film made?

Obviously, most of the film was shot in and around the Hope Rehab facilities, the main site and the advanced center. However the Hope program includes many offsite activities so you will also see some of the place we take clients from time to time. You will notice that the surroundings are homely, comfortable, and carefully put together, reflecting Thai culture. The Hope Facilities are unique and fun, our motto is, Hope is a five-star program which is the most important kind of luxury.

What’s the film about and who is in the video?

The film shows the wonderful Hope facilities and comprises of many short but powerful interviews with some clients. These clients share openly about their experience and their newly found recovery which is heartwarming and a testament to what can be achieved at Hope Rehab Thailand. The staff give some brief details about working at Hope and therapeutic program. In addition our lovely interns go over what part they play in the organization and daily

How was the documentary made?

The film was made over many days and weeks so Pat could fit in as much as possible. It is filmed in and around Hope Rehab Thailand in Sri Racha over the course of multiple visits. Sri Racha is a seaside small town in Chonburi which is roughly a 100km (62 miles) from Bangkok. Pat is a self-made Youtuber and historian documenting Thailand’s changes over the years. Pat is highly regarded, and his work has been recognized by the Thai authorities.

Unique and Comprehensive insights in the film.

This video is a comprehensive investigation into the unique approach to addiction treatment at Hope Rehab. It attempts to capture the essence of what goes on there. Pat was given the highest level of access and cooperation to record life at Hope whilst respecting the privacy of clients. It took many hours of filming over many visits. In this documentary, we get to hear from those who work at Hope as well as those who decide to go there. It offers an exclusive portrait of what people there get to experience. There are interviews with counsellors, support staff, interns, and clients who wanted to share their experience. The founding members of Hope Rehab (Simon and Alon) also provide insights into the background of the program. This comprehensive exploration of the people, program, and atmosphere of Hope Rehab will be of interest to anyone who ever wondered what goes on in this kind of environment. It will be of special interest to those who are looking for help for themselves or a loved one.

Escaping Plato’s Cave – How an Adventure in Thailand Might Transform Your Life

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato described a cave where humans were chained up facing a wall. This is the only life they had known since birth. There only awareness of the outside world was the shadows that were cast on the wall, and they assumed that this was the best reality had to offer. One day, one of these prisoners manages to escape his chains. He makes it to the world outside and is astounded by what he sees – his senses are overwhelmed with delightful stimuli – it is a paradise that he wouldn’t even have been capable of imagining before seeing it.

Eventually, the escaped prisoner returns to the cave to tell his friends about his amazing discovery. He tries his best to describe the incredible sights, sounds, and smells of the outside world but nobody will believe him. They are convinced that what they are experiencing in the cave is the only reality and that their friend must be insane.

In order for us to escape our own particular prison, it is often necessary to go on an adventure. It just may not be possible for us to break the chains created by our habits and usual thinking patterns while we remain in our usual environment. There are too many triggers (click here to find out more about relapse triggers) and too many influences keeping us stuck in our old ways. Coming to Hope Rehab Thailand can be a bit like escaping Plato’s cave – it provides the possibility of seeing life in a completely new way.
