Rehabs in London
There are some decent rehabs in London, but you may be faced with a high cost for treatment, a long waiting list, and little choice as to the treatment being offered. It is these limitations that have convinced lots of people struggling with addiction problems to go elsewhere for treatment.
The High Cost of Rehabs in London
If you are looking for an addiction rehab for yourself or a loved one in the London area, you may be a bit shocked by the cost of this type of treatment. Take ‘The Priory’ in Roehampton for example – it’s got a pretty good reputation, but if you want to stay here, you can expect to hand over at least £2,500 per week (don’t expect to find this price on The Priory website, they ask that you speak to one of their experts to discuss the cost of treatment – probably because you’ll need counselling after the shock of hearing about it!).
The cost of private rehabs in London is prohibitively expensive for most of us, but what are the alternatives? An NHS funded bed is one option, but in order to be eligible this you must meet certain criteria and government cutbacks means the requirements are getting tougher each year. Even if you do qualify for this funding, you might not have much choice about where you are sent and there could be a long waiting list.
The evidence strongly suggests that going to rehab will greatly increase your chances of achieving long-term recovery. It is unfair that you might not the treatment you need because of the exorbitant cost of private rehabs in London, or the hoops you need to jump through to get a funded bed. Luckily, there is an alternative. Forget about London – come to us here at Hope Rehab in Thailand where you will get the help you need at an affordable price.
One of the other drawbacks with rehabs in London is they tend to treat a large number of clients at the same time – even The Priory has 107 beds. This can mean you don’t get enough personal attention as an overcrowded facility will struggle to cater for the needs of each client. There may also be a poor client to therapist ratio which means you won’t get enough 1 to 1 sessions.
An Alternative to Rehabs in London
Many of our clients here at Hope Rehab come from the London area. This may have something to do with the fact that our founder, Simon Mott, grew up in London, and trained to be a therapist at the University of Hertfordshire, but mostly it is because we provide quality treatment for a cost not possible in the UK. Of course, there is also the fact that Thailand is a wonderful place to get sober, and it means you will be well away from temptation as you begin to rebuild your life.
I first started out helping addicts in London by giving them clean needles, however I had no idea that it would lead to founding my own treatment facility in Thailand which has been my home for the last four years and has given me a life beyond my wildest dreams. I love the people, the fresh food, culture, lifestyle and spirituality of the Kingdom.
I make it no secret that I am a recovering addict myself, so my life’s journey has had many ups and downs. Sitting here now on the terrace of Hope Rehab Center overlooking the port of Siam seems a far-cry from the hell I went through during my addiction.
After just about surviving a 20 year long addiction I finally I ended up on social security and on methadone living in state accommodation in London. It was at this low point in my life that I realised I was either going to die a miserable death or I had to change my life totally and get clean.
Today my purpose is to help others do the same and so much more is understood about addiction these days, the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) sounds highbrow but actually has produced a user-friendly scientific definition of what addiction actually is and what treatment is and what recovery also is.
