Dramatic Rise in Methamphetamine Addiction in Adelaide
A recent report in The Advertiser claims that there was a 55 per cent increase in the number of people abusing methamphetamine in the Adelaide in 2014. This worryingly upward trend in ice substance abuse is being repeated elsewhere in Australia – it has been described by the government as an ‘ice epidemic’. Methamphetamine ruins lives – not only for the people caught up in this type of substance abuse, but also for their loved ones.
There is a dire need for methamphetamine rehabs in Adelaide because the options currently available are not sufficient. A recent documentary on SBS called ‘Last Resource Rehab’ showed how many Australians are being forced to go abroad for the help they need (this documentary highlighted the work we do at our facility). Despite the worrying noises coming from the government in Australia, they are far more concerned with criminalising the victims of ice addiction than actually helping them.
Methamphetamine Rehabs in Adelaide
At the time of writing this (October 2015), we were unable to find rehabs in Adelaide offering a tailored program for those trying to escape methamphetamine addiction. Some of the more general addiction treatment center options available include:
• Visible Recovery
• Bel-Mar Infinity
• Addiction Counselling Services
If a treatment program is not designed specifically for the treatment of meth addiction, it may not offer you the best chance of recovery. It is also important that those responsible for providing your care in an inpatient treatment program fully understand what recovering from ice addiction involves.
As well as methamphetamine rehabs in Adelaide, there are also other sources of support including:
• Narcotics Anonymous
• Smart Recovery
• Catherine House (emergency housing and help for women)
What Happens if You Are Unable to Find Suitable Methamphetamine Rehabs in Adelaide
If you (or a loved one) have developed the motivation to quit ice, it is important to combine your motivation with the appropriate resources. Failure to do so can mean that this opportunity to transform your life is lost. An inpatient ice treatment program can be the right choice for a number of reasons including:
• It means you will be protected from the usual temptations and stresses that drive the behaviour
• You will be in a therapeutic environment where you will be supported and encouraged – this boosts your motivation
• You will have access to all the resources you need to change
• You will have the opportunity to deal with the issues underlying the addictive behaviour
• You will have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a life free of drugs
