Hope Rehab Adventure - Life Changing Experiences

Escaping Plato’s Cave – How an Adventure in Thailand Might Transform Your Life
The ancient Greek philosopher Plato described a cave where humans were chained up facing a wall. This is the only life they had known since birth. There only awareness of the outside world was the shadows that were cast on the wall, and they assumed that this was the best reality had to offer. One day, one of these prisoners manages to escape his chains. He makes it to the world outside and is astounded by what he sees – his senses are overwhelmed with delightful stimuli – it is a paradise that he wouldn’t even have been capable of imagining before seeing it.
Eventually, the escaped prisoner returns to the cave to tell his friends about his amazing discovery. He tries his best to describe the incredible sights, sounds, and smells of the outside world but nobody will believe him. They are convinced that what they are experiencing in the cave is the only reality and that their friend must be insane.
In order for us to escape our own particular prison, it is often necessary to go on an adventure. It just may not be possible for us to break the chains created by our habits and usual thinking patterns while we remain in our usual environment. There are too many triggers (click here to find out more about relapse triggers) and too many influences keeping us stuck in our old ways. Coming to Hope Rehab Thailand can be a bit like escaping Plato’s cave – it provides the possibility of seeing life in a completely new way.
How Might a Recovery Adventure in Thailand Benefit You?
- A new environment means we see our life and our situation in a new way.
- Being in a completely different culture promotes open-mindedness - something we definitely need when trying to escape addiction.
- New experiences mean new horizons for our future. We become aware of positive possibilities that were previously impossible to imagine.
- Travel involves getting outside of our comfort zone - this is also what recovery is about.
- Tavel can be a form of therapy (although a trip to Thailand is unlikely to fix all our problems by itself).
- Going on an adventure increases our self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Our usual environment tends to be a trigger for addiction and other negative behaviors so getting away makes it easier to change.
- Going on an adventure means meeting similar people who are looking to change their lives too.
- A recovery adventure in Thailand is something we are unlikely to ever forget. Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to begin your new life?
- Being in a foreign country tends to make us far more self-aware. Our usual way of looking at things gets challegned.
- They do say that "distance makes the heart grow fonder". Being away from home can help us better appreciate the things that are good in our life.
